Behind the Scenes with Jaysen Turner.

Photographer Jaysen Turner photographs a model in Los Angeles, California.

I had the opportunity to lend a hand to friend, and fellow photographer, Jaysen Turner this past week. Jaysen had assembled a great team to work on some catalog fashion work in Los Angeles, CA and I tagged along to lend a hand. It is nice to be able to step back from the role as key photographer on a set sometimes and take look from a different angle. Not only can you help make someone else’s shoot run smoother, it also gives you a chance to reflect on your own style of managing a shoot. I have always been fascinated with the behind the scenes aspect of the photography and movie production world and take the chance to document this when not working on set myself. I was able to grab up some great shots of Jaysen’s shoot, a few of my favorites are in this post. Be sure to check out Jaysen’s awesome work over at www.JaysenTurner.com, you’ll be glad you did!

There’s gonna be a few changes ’round here.

Hey there everyone! So, I have a bit of news for you. I’m in the process of making some changes to how JOESHOOTSME.COM looks on the web. We have a new website in development, this new blog, a new Facebook fan page, and the old Twitter is getting a facelift as well. I ask that you guys bear with us during the growing pains, and please don’t mind the dust and loud construction noises to follow. During this time you can still get in touch with me the usual ways, which I will list here at the end of the post. Any questions or concerns, please feel free to drop me a line, however is easiest for you. That all said, please keep all limbs inside the car and hold on tight, we’re in for an exciting ride.

-Joe

The Stars Are Maligned 11-11-11 Event Article.

I had a chance to cover an event at Studio Servitu last week in Los Angeles. The event was a gallery showing for the art and work of Nick Kushner, Rudy Coby, and Anthony Silva. If you are unfamiliar with any of these artist I urge you to click the links and take a look, some amazing talent all around. Lip Service was one of the great sponsors of the evening, and just posted an article about the night featuring some of the photos we took, give it a look HERE. Some great guests were in attendance, including Marilyn Manson and Janice Dickinson. A big thank you to Jaysen Turner as well, without him it would have been impossible to cover all the goings on of the evening. The photographs will be posted in a gallery online soon, so attendees can grab the shots they are in.

Stills team work for Charter Communications and Tool.

I’ve had the opportunity to work for a photographer multiple times in LA covering the stills for advertising use by Charter Communications. It is a small team, just the photographer and myself, me covering as first assistant, digital tech, and all around right hand man, but things work really well with a team like that. We’ve been working with Tool of North America, an amazingly talented production group. It is refreshing to work with a group of professionals, and to watch big time Hollywood Directors of Photography work on a smaller, but not by much, scale then on a full movie set. Here are a few of the finished spots that I’ve been a part of. Stills we worked on are being used for billboards, flyers, web and marketing materials.

First look at the new La Tour at The Pub in Santa Barbara.

Graham Presley of La Tour Wine Merchant has partnered up with a few people and opened up a new location over on Helena Street in Santa Barbara, California. I stopped in for the soft opening two nights ago and swung back in today to snap a few images of the new space. One side is La Tour, and the other is The Pub, great food, drinks and wine in one awesome stop. More photos to follow I’m sure. Click the images for a larger look.

Food, drinks and such.

Gearing up for my week long trip to New York City to shoot a travel story on the ethnic neighborhoods which make up the melting pot of Manhattan. Before I head out I thought I’d post some recent images from some local Santa Barbara dining and drink spots, here is a look at Stella Mare’s located at 50 Los Patos Way, Santa Barbara, California. As always, click for a larger view.
